Glaucoma management and surgery

Glaucoma can lead to permanent visual loss and blindness if it is not treated and diagnosed early.  Glaucoma affects the optic nerve of the eye.  When the drainage area at the back of the eye is blocked, fluid may build up and cause an increase in eye pressure.  When pressure is high damage can occur.
Glaucoma is commonly treated with eye drops to reduce the pressure.  Occasionally laser treatment or surgery may be required. If treated early visual loss can be stopped or slowed.
